Question for everyone who wants to respond...
Does the nagging, self-doubt ever end? I mean, do you ever get to a place where you look back at your work and say "damn, that's good!" as opposed to "wow, that's way off..."? I'm not talking about or looking to be an insanely successful commercial artist, but I would love to be able to look back at a piece 6 months after it's completed and be able to say "You know, I did a really good job!"

yes.
and yes.

i've got plenty of stuff that i really didn't "click" with after i first painted it. but, now, i actually like it a whole lot. sometimes it just takes putting a little time/distance between yourself and the piece. the act of creation is exhausting and drains you emotionally in addition to physically. it's sometimes hard to fall in love with a piece that's taken so much out of you...that is, until you spend a little time away from it. :)

See, my reaction tends to be the exact opposite. I usually am really proud of a piece when I finish it. Its just when I look back at the ones I did x amount of time ago, I'm like "wow, that really wasn't that good". I don't know, perhaps it's because I HAVE gotten better over the past few years that I'm seeing the flaws a lot easier. Hmmm... something to think about....

I'm glad the self doubt will someday end though :-D
